On-Line Mentoring

DorothyHelping people find Christ over the Internet.

This is the role of an on-line spiritual mentor.

Sound unusual?

Maybe, but a lot of people are doing it.
And Dorothy Brown of Winnipeg, Manitoba is one of them.

Dorothy spends a couple hours a week on-line, not surfing the web, but rather mentoring women from around the world who write to her asking for wisdom and advice. A 28-year employee of Campus Crusade for Christ, Dorothy was introduced to the concept of on-line mentoring through the unique ministry Truthmedia Internet Group.

“A lot of women write in asking for assurance of salvation,” Dorothy explains. “My job is to help them walk in Spirit and let them know God can fill that empty feeling they may have.”

mentoring online Dorothy has been mentoring women on-line for a year and a half and finds tremendous enjoyment and reward in this unusual role.

“Many women will write to me and say they don’t know who else to talk to,” Dorothy says. “Sometimes I don’t hear from them again and other times I’ve been able to develop long-term relationships with them.”

One such case is a lady in Europe that Dorothy has been mentoring for an entire year.

A few hours a week are required to prepare and write answers to questions that arrive via e-mail. Questions range in topics including parenting, marriage, family, spirituality and work. Dorothy says she is one of several on-line mentors that Internet ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ, Canada  uses. Dorothy herself typically mentors one or two women a week.

Dorothy recommends this type of ministry to someone who has a heart for helping others, enjoys studying the Bible, and understands and relies on the ministry of the Holy Spirit to give wisdom.

“It’s been very rewarding,” Dorothy says. “Maybe a person can’t travel, but by e-mail you can witness to people all over the world!”
