A Healing in the Night

by Charlotte Ecklu

Athsma and MiraclesEver since I was a child, I have suffered from asthma. Fortunately, in my childhood, I responded well to medication. The intensity and frequency of the attacks, however, grew in severity during my teenage years and I was treated with antibiotics in addition to daily doses of asthma tablets and inhalers.

The months May, June and July of this year were one of those wonderful periods in my life when, by God’s grace, I responded well to a quantity of antibiotics and steroids. I enjoyed many weeks without coughing, except for an ocasional throat-clearing kind of cough. I had almost concluded that I had found reprieve from my asthma when this period of remission was followed by a sudden severe attack of cough. In one day, this became worse, and I became desperate. I visited my doctor immediately, but, for almost a week, the cough persisted as I no longer responded to treatment.

On my next visit to the doctor, my medication was changed. But for many days, no change occurred. One of those nights, I could hardly sleep. I was coughing so regularly and had such difficulty doing so that, by the time it was daybreak, I felt really worn out. I made sure I kept thanking the Lord as often as possible and, although I kept coughing, I felt comforted. My chest and throat were aching badly and my breath was wheezy.

I decided to pour out my desperation to the Lord. I desperately urged the Lord to help me because I knew the medication was not working. I lost all hope in any additional medication. I asked the Lord to bring relief according to His mercy.

I stood up from prayer with the assurance that God had heard. As the minutes and the hours passed, it dawned on me that the Lord had answered my prayers! The rest of the day, I only coughed slightly, which was nothing at all compared with the severe attack I had suffered the night before.

I thank God for the relief He brought me. I know God stopped the attack when all medication seemed to have failed. Although I still cough some of the time, I will never forget that day when He brought me instant relief from that stressful and painful attack.

If you are looking for a deeply satisfying relationship with God, I encourage you to pray by faith and ask the Holy Spirit to fill you. If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, God has given you His Holy Spirit to help you live life according to His perfect plan. Why not pray this simple prayer and by faith invite Him to fill you with His Spirit:

Dear Father, I need you. I acknowledge that I have sinned against you by directing my own life. I thank You that You have forgiven my sins through Christ's death on the cross for me. I now invite Christ to again take His place on the throne of my life. Fill me with the Holy Spirit as You commanded me to be filled, and as You promised in Your Word that You would do if I asked in faith. I pray this in the name of Jesus. As an expression of my faith, I thank You for directing my life and for filling me with the Holy Spirit. Amen.

If you prayed this prayer, we would love to hear about it! We will e-mail you some information to help you grow, and respond personally to your questions.

I have a question I'd like answered first.
