Grumpy

"For it is God who works within you, to will and to act according to his good purpose" (Philippians 2:13).

I am not a morning person. My dad wasn’t and my grandmother wasn’t. Most mornings I would be grumpy when I made breakfast and lunches for my family and sent the children off to school. Of course I blamed it on my heritage.

I didn’t want to speak to anyone until after 10:00 in the morning and I didn’t want to be spoken to until after 10:00 in the morning. One husband and four children had to put up with a grumpy woman. It didn’t cross my mind that perhaps God could change me.

Then the Holy Spirit began to show my that His power was not limited to after 10:00 in the morning and that I was having a negative influence on our children and my husband. So one day I claimed the promise in Philippians 2:13. I prayed, "Lord you are the God of all flesh, you made me and know all my weaknesses. You know that I am grumpy every morning. Please change me so that I am a pleasant woman in the mornings"

Within three months, Marvin, my husband noticed a difference in my attitude and commented one morning, "I sure appreciate you being cheerful in the morning." I realized then that praying specifically really works.

So you know, I still don’t bounce out of bed in the morning - I like to wake up slowly and then give myself and my day and the people I meet to the Lord. I ask Him to be in control of my life. What a difference God makes in my life.

Father, thanks so much for answering prayer. Thanks for giving us the grace to be pleasant and nice and helpful. Thanks for working in our lives. Amen.

If you are looking for a deeply satisfying relationship with God, I encourage you to pray by faith and ask the Holy Spirit to fill you.  If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, God has given you His Holy Spirit to help you live life according to His perfect plan.  Why not pray this simple prayer and by faith invite Him to fill you with His Spirit:

Dear Father, I need you.  I acknowledge that I have sinned against you by directing my own life.  I thank You that You have forgiven my sins through Christ's death on the cross for me.  I now invite Christ to again take His place on the throne of my life.  Fill me with the Holy Spirit as You commanded me to be filled, and as You promised in Your Word that You would do if I asked in faith.  I pray this in the name of Jesus.  As an expression of my faith, I thank You for directing my life and for filling me with the Holy Spirit.  Amen.
