Crafts for Kids

Are you looking for creative new ways to spend time with your grandkids? Try these easy, step-by-step craft ideas:

Edible Igloos

Ingredients:
half an apple
smooth peanut butter
mini marshmallows
1 sharp knife (for adult to cut apple in half)
butter knife

Method:
1. Cut the apple in half for your child and core it.
2. Spread peanut butter all over the outside of apple half.
3. Stick the marshmallows to the peanut butter with all of the edges touching. Leave a small space for the doorway.

Pop-Up Cards

Materials needed:
paper (construction paper or light poster board)
scissors
crayons, markers or paint
YOUR IMAGINATION

Method:
This is a favourite for Valentine cards. It is easy and fun to do. Fold your paper in half lengthwise (we used 9 x 12 inch construction paper).
Cut out a 3 ½ x 3 ½ inch square at the upper outer corner.
Fold the remaining top part down inside the card at an angle. This piece will "pop up" when the card is opened.
Cut the "pop up" into a heart shape (or other favourite shape).
Decorate the front cover of the card any way you like. We used a heart stencil but you may wish to draw hearts by hand. You can even make mini cards from the part that you have cut away and use as gift tags (Hint: use a ruler to help crease the pop-up part to make folding inside of the card easier).
